Perform — True Fresh Install (Blank Loading Screen)

If Perform stays on a blank or loading screen after you uninstall and reinstall, Android may have restored old app data from backup. Follow these steps in order for a true fresh install..

Written by Eleanor Shaw

Before you start

  • You will be logged out on your device — have your BoxMate email and password ready, or use Magic Link Login.

  • Your BoxMate account and workout history are safe — this only clears data stored on your phone.

  • Allow 10–15 minutes and a stable internet connection (Wi‑Fi or mobile data).

True fresh install (Android)

Step 1: Clear app storage

If BoxMate is still installed:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Apps (or Applications)

  3. Find and tap BoxMate

  4. Tap Storage

  5. Tap Clear storage (on some devices: Clear data)

  6. Confirm when prompted

This removes cached login data and other files on your device that a normal uninstall can miss.

Step 2: Uninstall BoxMate

  1. Return to the BoxMate app info screen (or long-press the BoxMate icon on your home screen)

  2. Tap Uninstall

  3. Confirm

Step 3: Restart your phone

  1. Power off your phone completely

  2. Wait 10 seconds

  3. Power it back on

Restarting helps clear temporary files still held in memory.

Step 4: Reinstall from Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store

  2. Search for BoxMate

  3. Tap Install

  4. Wait for the download to finish completely before opening the app

Step 5: Do not restore from backup

On first open, Android may ask whether to restore app data from backup.

  • Choose Don't restore, Set up as new, or Skip — whichever your device shows

  • Do not agree to restore BoxMate data from Google backup

Restoring backup data is a common reason the loading screen issue returns after reinstall.

Step 6: Sign in and wait

  1. Open BoxMate

  2. Sign in with your email and password, or tap Magic Link Login

  3. If you see "Preparing BoxMate, please wait...", wait up to 30 seconds on a good connection

The app should then reach the login screen or your dashboard.

If you are still stuck

Step 7: Clear Google Play Store cache, then reinstall again

Use this only if Steps 1–6 did not work.

  1. Open SettingsAppsGoogle Play Store

  2. Tap Storage

  3. Tap Clear cache (not Clear storage unless support asks you to)

  4. Restart your phone

  5. Repeat Steps 2–6 above (uninstall BoxMate → restart → reinstall → don't restore backup)

Clearing Play Store cache can fix a corrupted download. It does not delete your BoxMate account.
