Managing the Recipe Library

Upload recipes for members to access in the app.

Written by Danny Redfern

Recipes have existed in BoxMate since the launch of the Lifestyle feature, but until now, they were only visible within Lifestyle plans in the members app. Not anymore!

With the launch of our new Recipe Library, you now have the ability to maintain an always-available library of recipes that members can access directly inside the Members App.

Note: By default, any existing recipes you have built inside Lifestyle plans will not automatically appear in the Recipe Library. This article explains how to update these recipes later on.

Configuring Your Recipe Library

As with many BoxMate features, the Recipe Library can optionally be restricted behind a TeamUp membership, allowing you to offer it as a premium feature to members.

If you would like the Recipe Library to be available to all members, you can skip to the next section, as the Recipe Library is publicly accessible by default.

Restricting Access with TeamUp

To restrict access to the Recipe Library:

  1. Navigate to Account > Settings from the sidebar in your admin area.

  2. Select the TeamUp tab.

  3. Locate the TeamUp Recipes Access card.

  4. Select one or multiple memberships that members must have at least one of in order to access the Recipe Library.

Members without a qualifying membership will see a pop-up prompting them to purchase one of the selected memberships before they can continue. They will not be able to bypass this screen until a qualifying membership has been purchased.

Building A Recipe

To build and manage recipes:

  1. Navigate to Lifestyle > Recipes from the sidebar in the admin area.

  2. Click Add Recipe in the top-right corner.

This will open the recipe builder, where you can create a bespoke recipe including calories, macros, categories, and more.

Most fields, such as recipe name, calories, macros, and description, are self-explanatory. The key areas worth noting are Recipe Category and Public Recipe.

Recipe Category

Recipe Categories allow you to group recipes for easier filtering within the Members App.

When creating your first recipe, you will see several preset categories, including Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, and Dessert. You can also create custom categories.

To create a new category:

  1. Type the category name into the input field

  2. Click Add Item

The category will then be assigned to the recipe and will be available for future use.

For example, if you create a category called Vegan, it will appear as a selectable option whenever you create new recipes.

Public Recipe

The Public Recipe setting determines whether a recipe is visible in the Recipe Library.

  • Public Recipe: Visible to members in the Recipe Library

  • Private Recipe: Only visible within Lifestyle plans

To make recipes accessible in the Recipe Library, ensure they are set to Public.

If you are working with older recipes created inside Lifestyle plans, you will need to manually update and backdate them and set them to Public in order for them to appear in the Recipe Library. This ensures previously created content is correctly surfaced to members without needing to recreate the recipe.

Completing the Recipe Build

Once you have:

  • Selected a recipe title

  • Entered calories and macros

  • Selected a recipe category

  • Written a description

  • Set the recipe to Public or Private

  • Attached a recipe image (optional)

Click Add Recipe.

If the upload is successful:

  • A confirmation pop-up will appear

  • The recipe builder will close

  • Your recipe will appear in the recipe list

Navigating the Recipes Page

The Recipes page includes filtering and at-a-glance statistics to make navigation quick and intuitive.

At-a-Glance Statistics

Recipes support member actions. Each time a member views a recipe, a view is recorded (shown via the eye icon on the recipe card). Members can also like recipes to save them for later, shown with a heart icon.

Recipe Category Filter

This filter allows you to display recipes assigned to a specific category.
